To become a full blown forensic scientist you’ll need a specialist forensic sciences degree. They run this course at Northumbria University – I applied for it when I went to uni. Here’s a link to the course:

You’ll certainly have to be decent at science to get through the A-levels and the degree. I found science at school was very different compared to when you actually use the knowledge you have in practical investigatory scenarios – science makes such more sense to me now than when I was at school. I think it’s do do with understanding why we do things a certain way and not just being told to do stuff.

What is it about studying science you feel makes you not as strong as you’d like to be?

You should go for it!!! Do you know what?! There is a forensic scientist at LSU who started off in school as a creative writer! Then she went into science after getting a degree in creative writing… and now she writes books about her discoveries! That is a fantastic way to go! They call her ‘The Bone Lady’… check her out! http://www.lsu.edu/departments/gold/2011/10/bonelady.shtml

You don’t have to be gifted or strong in science… you just have to work hard and you can do it. You can be anything you want to be if you are willing to do the work!

Like SJ mentioned, you will need a certain level in order to get through the Alevels and degree. If it is something you enjoy though it is definitely worth looking in to more and your strength in the subject may surprise you.

You could also look at the careers within forensic science. It may be that you could choose one which best suits you, you don’t need a degree for all of the jobs

I don’t think it should be a huge problem. Forensic science is very applied and there are many Universities which offer the course. If you are really interested in it you should do it. You will need to work out what you need to get in to University, but you may find that you don’t need really high Science grades. I would say go for it, what do you have to loose.
