Oh gosh… well one time some bacteria got into may cancer cell treatment experiment dish… when I went to look at my cells through the microscope, I saw all these tiny worm-looking creatures all over my sample! At the time, it wasn’t too funny, but very very sad because I had spent a whole week preparing for that experiment! I couldn’t believe my eyes of what I saw under the microscope! Kind of funny now, but contamination of experiments sucks!

Ha there was this time when the girl upstairs was dissecting a totally rotten tonsil the had been donated for research. They’re really tough to cut and springy, so as she was cutting it up, it pinged out of the dish and went somewhere. In the end she couldn’t find it so so had to give up and request another tonsil.

When she got home that night she found the tonsil; it had pinged into the turn up at the bottom of her jeans and absolutely reeked.

      GROSS!!!!

      I like SJ’s response.

A while ago, a colleague of mine was placing a (rectal) swab back in it’s container and somehow managed to force it in in such a way that it fired back out and hit me in the head. I wasn’t overly amused at the time, but everyone else seemed to find it funny.

I always enjoy watching new members of staff/ students faces when they open a sample for the first time which fizzes out of the container. Poo samples are the worst for this during the summer.

I was once working on an american military campus, in Iowa. I got a little bored and myself and the american I was working with decided to fill coke bottles up with liquid nitrogen and place a rubber bung in the top, when the nitrogen expanded the bung would fly across the room. That was fun until one of the bugs got stuck and the bottle got bigger and bigger and eventually the bottle (which was plastic) exploded causing the loaded bang you have every hears. This was incurable funny until the Military Police came to have a word with us.
