• Question: do they work alonem?

      Hey Hollie,

      Are you asking if we work alone?

      For me, I work within a research group that focuses on Molecular Dermatology and we all work together to discover as much as we can on this topic. As individuals though we all work inpedendently on our own topics of interest.

      For example;
      I look for evidence for differences in cancer developing capacity between different skin colours.
      Anne looks at how different antioxidant in fruit and vegetables affect how damaged DNA gets.
      Amy looks at how UVA light affects Whale’s skin and causes cancer
      Jenny looks at how different UV lights have different effects in skin and how they cause premature aging

      But all together we work to find out how the sun damages skin and causes cancer and aging!

      In my department, we all work as one big team to get the work done. We each have our own tasks to do, but help each other when we can and the tasks sort of flow, so one persons work helps the next.

      I do oncall sometimes, where I have to go in to work during the night if there is an urgent sample. When I do this I have to work alone.

      I work alone only when I write, but then again in my job there are editors, there are photographers, there are videographers who help you make movies of the people you are interviewing… you are always working in a team! When I worked in biological engineering, we were ALWAYS working on a team, because engineers often need teams to get a complicated project done! In general, the biggest science projects in the world are RARELY done alone… you are working at a team to get expertise from many different people! This is great because it allows many heads to come up with ideas that one head could not! It is very powerful, this teamwork.
