• Question: hello everyone, i have a question that i have been trying to answer myself on wikipeida and google but never found an answer i thought was right. for you all, do you think that the wheather could be possibly decided by the waves in the sea. easy question but very big to me becasue i like the sea. may seem a bit stupid but it has been in my mind for ages.

      Hey Sham!

BIg strong wind out at sea can be responsible for making large ocean waves, this in turn can have an effect on the way the water breaks on the coast.

As far as I am aware the actual waves of the sea don’t have an effect on how the weather turns out, rather its the other way round and air movement as well as gravity controlled tidal movement creates the waves. However cataclysmic event like Tsunamis can have massive effects on the tide and indeed weather – and that’s essentially a big wave – maybe it depends on the size of the wave?

No such thing as a studi question here mate, it’s awesome that you’ve taken an interest to the point that something like this is on your mind – it’s how I feel about working out the way mitochandria work.

Maybe you should look into oceanography or meteorology as a career? Marine sciences are super interesting.

      Hi!!!!!!

Oh definitely! There is research going on at LSU, my university, that shows that hurricanes are in fact larger if they go through shallow waters, and they are made stronger if certain conditions out at sea are met! So that is an example of severe weather that depends on sea and water properties and conditions!!! Stronger and more extreme weather is also predicted over WARMER waters, which is why global warming is such a problem for people who live close to the sea — as the planet warms and ocean waters warm, natural weather disasters could become more extreme too!!!!!!!!!

Look on LSU’s website tomorrow, at http://www.lsu.edu, for a story that I wrote about hurricanes and sea patterns! The story should come out by 2pm in the afternoon my time, night your time!
