I work at the University of Manchester most of the time, although I have to travel to do some of my experiments. This weekend I’ll be working (and I was last weekend too, although I was explaining science to the public at Jodrell Bank Live so got to see Elbow play live at the end of the day). Most weekends I go swimming with my kids, I play my guitar, play with my kids and go cycling with them if the weather is good, tidy up the house and go shopping – the usual chores that everyone has to do. During the football season we sometimes go down to the Etihad stadium to watch Man City play or watch them on tv if they’re on.

Anyone can be a scientist but you have to work hard to get there and have an interest in science really helps you achieve that goal.

I work at Newcastle University all day long. I’m part of the Dermatological Sciences group, but I get to do lots of different work with lots of different departments!

This weekend though I am super excited to by driving with my boyfriend upto Glentress for some downhill bike riding action. On Sunday though, my Mam’s coming for sunday dinner, so I’l mostly be baking and cooking.

As for who can be a scientist – anyone can! You just need to ask a question about something in the world, do a bit of research, then find the answer (or at least get a good idea of what’s going on)….

I work in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at Louisiana State University (www.lsu.edu). I have to travel around the school and around the state often to talk to scientists in the area. Sometimes I also have to travel around the US for conferences where I present my research! It is very fun.

On the weekends I often take pictures, film for my new documentary movie about global warming in Louisiana, walk my dog, and exercise!

Anyone can be a scientist! Of course you need some background in math, biology, chemistry, physics, and these science-related fields, but most importantly you need a good attitude, a willingness to work hard, and good study habits!

I work at New Cross Hospital, just outside of Wolverhampton. I sometimes have to work weekends but when I’m not working I like to try and fit in as much as possible. I like to visit new places, watch films, visit family, meet up with friends or watch the sport as well as trying new things. Sometimes though I have to do boring chores too.

Anyone can be a scientist and often people do a bit of science everyday, they just don’t think of it as science.
