If it’s what you want and you’re willing to spend a good few years in education – I totally would recommend it.

Why? …because even if half way though to getting to where I am now you decide it’s not for you you, there are loads of awesome things you can do with good A-levels, a science degree and indeed a Cellular Medicine PhD! if you do make it out the other end with a doctorate the world really is your oyster!

There are many ways to make a career out of science though, if you check out this website you can see the various pathways that are available if you don’t fancy A-levels or further still a degree or PhD.

I did my degree because at the time I wanted to do academic research and didn’t much fancy working for a big corporation doing product based research. It’s true that in some cases there are glass ceilings for how much you can progress if you don’t have a degree or a PhD, however it depends on the kind of work you fancy and where you’d like to work.

I love my job, but it takes real dedication and plays on your mind when you’re not at work. I like this, but I can see why it would drive others mental.

Get some good careers advice before you make the decision though – its a long road if you choose it! 🙂

I love my job, but it isn’t for everyone. We have lots of visitors to our department who say it smells bad, but I don’t even notice the smell any more.

If it is something you are interested in, I would definitely recommend it. I think it’s fascinating and you can help make people better.

I would recommend the job I had just before this one. I am a lecturer, before this I was a postdoc and this is the general career path. Being a postdoc is the best job in the world, you get to play with science all you want. There is no teaching you don’t have to convince people to give you money to do the science. It is a very good lifestyle and you can travel around the world doing it, I seriously considered being a postdoc for the rest of my life and just moving country every three years.

If you are interested in science but also love to write, communicate, and talk to other people as well as research people’s communication habits, then science communications is for you!!!!!!!!!!!!
